XSERVE India has recently launched the "BBMR Appliance". This Appliance is aimed at making the life of the system administrator much simpler. Servers/PCs generally fail due to either HDD failure or due to software patches/updates. Usual practice among the system administrators is to take backups of data/information, while the system disk is rarely backed up. This leads to the servers being down for more than a couple of hours because of time taken to install the OS and configuration etc.
The BBMR Appliance bridges the time gap in resurrecting the Servers/clients to its original status in appreciable time frame. The process followed is that the BBMR Clients in each of the servers will create images of the root system in the Appliance. When the root disk on the server fails, the BBMR Client will raise an alert to the administrator requesting for permission to boot from the image on the Appliance.
The remote boot from the image on the appliance will take place over PXE compliant Ethernet Adapters on the servers. This takes the standard booting time for the system to come up. Once the root disk is repaired/replaced the working image can be copied to the root disk without loosing much of computing/server time.
"We are targeting the SME and Enterprise segment to benefit from this cost effective solution as there is a latent need for such Appliance that ensures their business is not affected because of system failures," said Mr. Rahul Gupta, Managing Director, XSERVE India. "The BBMR Appliance is first of its kind in the industry to provide an appliance based solution for system level redundancy for organization where the servers are in business critical environment without having to invest in costly HA Solutions." said Mr. S R Prasannakumar, Sr. Product Manager, XSERVE India.
